What to know

Uthmeier was appointed attorney general by Gov. Ron DeSantis in February 2025 after serving as DeSantis' chief of staff, so this is the first time he has run for any office. He has Donald Trump's endorsement. A 2026 Leon County grand jury report found that $10 million from a Medicaid settlement routed through Hope Florida was misappropriated, with a political committee he controlled as the main recipient; it filed no charges, and Uthmeier denies wrongdoing. His campaign centers on prosecuting crime, immigration enforcement and suing corporations.
