Having overcome many challenges: homelessness, addiction, and the collateral consequences of a past conviction, Desmond has a deep understanding of the challenges we face in our state: housing, healthcare, and education, among others.

Desmond has lived experience with every system he wants to change. Having overcome many challenges: homelessness, addiction, and the collateral consequences of a past conviction, Desmond has a deep understanding of the challenges we face in our state: housing, healthcare, and education, among others. He also knows how to win in Florida. In 2018, Desmond, along with his wife Sheena, led a grassroots citizens' initiaive which restored voting rights to people with past convictions, affecting 1.4 million Floridians, the largest expansion of the franchise in this country in decades. From that victory, Desmond recognizes that when we come together and see each other as people first, we can accomplish anything. At the same time, he's also seen what it looks like when partisan politics get in the way of common-sense solutions. In running for Governor, as a Non-Party Affiliated candidate, Desmond does not answer to any party. He answers to the people of Florida.
