Darren joined the Air National Guard at 24. He knew his calling was to be part of something bigger than himself and to help keep our country safe. He has served six tours of duty, including two in Iraq. He set up mobile hospitals during the pandemic and deployed to nursing homes to care for Florida’s seniors. As Florida’s State Air Surgeon, Darren helps coordinate our state’s emergency response when hurricanes and other disasters strike, including Hurricanes Milton and Helene that hit Tampa Bay in 2024. Darren has always gone where the mission demanded. As a physician with the Veterans Health Administration, he saw firsthand how cuts to the federal workforce harmed veterans and the people dedicated to caring for them after they returned home. He couldn’t stand by while the quality of veterans’ services was stripped away, so he retired from the VA to run for Congress and take the fight to D.C. For Darren, running for Congress is a new mission — one where success is measured by how many Americans you help find affordable healthcare, a good-paying job, or save up to buy a home. It doesn’t matter what party you belong to or whether the cameras are rolling. No tweets, no tantrums. Just service, sacrifice, and love of country.
