His research focuses on the economics of education and education policy, and includes topics such as career and technical education, school choice, skill development, and pathways to the labor market. Matthew’s research has appeared in the Economics of Education Review, Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis, and Journal of Policy Analysis and Management. His work has received financial support from Arnold Ventures, Blueprint Labs, the Institute of Education Sciences, and the Spencer Foundation. Matthew earned his PhD in Education from Harvard University, MA in political science from Georgia State University, and BA in economics from Wesleyan University. Before enrolling in his PhD program, Matthew held research and policy roles at the Wake County Public School System and the Southern Regional Education Board, and he taught middle school in the Atlanta Public Schools.
