What to know

This is a special election to finish the term of Sen. Ed Hooper, who stepped down early; the winner serves until 2028. Hensley is a Port Richey bartender with 13 years in restaurant and bar management and a first-time candidate, who says he entered because no other Democrat had filed. His campaign is about cost of living and lists housing, property insurance, wages, health care, public schools and the Gulf as priorities. He reported about $6,700 raised, against more than $230,000 for his opponent.
