It’s time we get serious about ending food insecurity in St. Petersburg. For too long, a stark inequity has existed in our city. While some corners have multiple grocery stores, neighborhoods like South St. Pete have been systemically denied access to healthy, affordable food. This isn’t just a logistical issue—it has a human cost. When our children go hungry, they cannot learn. When our seniors struggle to find fresh produce, their health suffers. When any part of our city suffers from a lack of food access, our entire community pays the price in higher healthcare costs and lost potential. I believe that in a city as prosperous as ours, no neighbor should wonder where their next meal is coming from.
